About Us
Founded in 1943, the Disabled Citizens Society (DCS) began as a community initiative supporting wounded soldiers returning from war, as well as individuals affected by polio. From the outset, DCS was built on connection — bringing people together through social activities, shared experiences, and a strong culture of mutual support. Fundraising efforts played a vital role in sustaining services and ensuring members had access to meaningful opportunities.

Over time, DCS evolved into an incorporated society, adapting to the changing needs of the community while staying true to its founding purpose. Today, operating under the Disability Enterprise model, DCS supports around 70 members through supported employment, life skills training, and opportunities for social connection — continuing a legacy of inclusion, empowerment, and community that spans more than 80 years.
